For current events, we will be researching two astronomy topics in
the news. The first topic is the Mars One Mission where for a few
dollars a seat can be purchased for the first human mission to the red
planet. The second topic is about a NASA research program studying
microgravity affects where the test participants have to remain in bed.
You will be comparing and contrasting the benefits to these projects to
the risks.
One of the benefits of the Mars mission is that you would have the oppurtunity to travel a distance that no human has ever traveled before. You would get to explore mars directly. One of the risks of traveling that far is that there's a chance that you could be exposed to radiation. I would not travel to Mars, because I Don't want to get up in space, then run out of fuel. That's just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThats a really good benefit
DeleteI liked it though I would still go up in space nomatter the fuel because its a once in a life time chance even if you die lol.
DeleteYesterday, I wanted to learn about what a pillownaut was. One thing I figured out was there were a lot of risks and benefits involved with becoming one. If you agree to become a pillownaut, you get paid $200 a DAY! If you agree to it for 70 days you get paid 11900$ in total. That is a lot of money for just sitting in bed all day every day. Some risks were that microgravity can be very harmful to your body. Long exposure to microgravity causes 1 to 1.5 bone loss rate per month. In microgravity, your face will puff up like a puffer fish because of your body liquids redistributing away from the extremities. I would not want to be a pillownaut, even if I was to be paid $50,000. The reason for this is because I couldn't play football, basketball, or even be responsible for getting my own food or drinks. Plus, I'd have to have someone to help me use the restroom. That would be too far. Well, with this information, would you like to become a pillownaut?
ReplyDeleteThere's a one way trip to the red planet, Mars, it only cost $37 togo so why wait? Well first off it doesn't happen til 2023 so you'll have some time to get ready. They also don't have it all thought out so it may be a little longer. I don't think it's safe though because what if you run out af food. (Let the hunger games begin.) Although it would be good to know if it's possible to colonize other planets. Anyone that wants to go has to send in a video saying why they should get to go.

DeleteIf I was to go on the mars one mission I would not want to go because, when you go you dont come back and someday i would like to start a family. Yes there would be some benifets like we may be able to find life if it exists on other planets. the red planet is one of my favorites but it also has a giant sand storm going on right now and that makes a littlen frightend. Another beifet would be that i would never have to pay bills or get a job because i would be on mars. A bad thing is that I would leave behind my favorite foods and drinks witch would be very dissapointing. A bad thing would be that there would not be a hospitle so if i hurt myself or got sick i would not be able to go to the docter. And that is why i dont want to go to mars.
ReplyDeleteYesterday we were assigned to do a fun sort of project wether to become a pillownaught or take a space ride to Mars. After all the notes me and my partner found I have decided for the project to become a Pillownaught. You get payed $175 everyday for basically doing nothing but laying on the bed and extercising every once in a while. The amount of days you do it is 70 days for a whopping total of $10,000! There are risks of cource because you may become drowsy and stuff like that. I hoped you enjoyed my quick summary of becoming a Pillownaught or going to Mars.
ReplyDeleteWRONG WRONG WRONG
Deleteif i were u i would have gave more reasons for why u might not want to be a pillownaut.
DeleteOn what I am studying you sit in a bed for 2 months and at the end u get 10500 dallers just for sitting in a bed for 7 months and you just sit there and play playstation or xbox or read and do whatever. But you have two go to the bathroom in a tube and number 2 i dont know and i dont want to know-_- .
ReplyDeleteSincerly
` Tyler H.
Actually you only sit there for 70 days *Correction* :D
DeleteHmm very intresting....but first you said you sit in a bed for 2 months then 7? Witch one is it.
DeleteLIES.......
DeleteYou can't play games you can't move at all
Deleteyou chaneged the amout of mounths.
DeleteThe benifits of going to Mars would be that you would get to leave all your problems behind ,like your bills. You get free food and water for the rest of your life. The average temperature on Mars is negitive eighty degrees ferenhight. The atmosphere is to thin to support life as we know so you would have to have an endless air supply. You would also need a endless air supply because the is very dusty and is ninty five percent carbon dioxide.I would not go on the Mars One Mission because the risks out weigh the benifits. You would have to leave behind the world as we know it and i couldnt do it.
ReplyDeleteHow would you GET water or food, does it appear out of thin air? Do other people bring it up there?
DeleteThat's a good point
DeleteMe for one I would go on the Mars One Mission. Its a chance for us to travel farther than ever before in space. I would be on another planet witch I think no other human has been on. My last benifit is that I can brag to other people and tell then im a astronaut and been off planet and they havent. The cons for me would be the radiation up there, the ship breaking up there and getting stranded, or my suit breaking when im in outerspace and dieing a very painful death...... All in all I would do it if given the chance.
ReplyDeleteGood story garrett, I thought of the same negative reasons you did.
Delete The benefits of doing the mars one mission are that you get unlimited food and drink. You also get to leave all your worries. The bad part is that you can't go back and it takes a long time to get there. And there's no hospitals so if you get hurt you can't get medication. I would not want to go to mars because I want to live my life the correct way.
ReplyDeleteWhere does the food come from.
DeleteGood job expressing yourself, but wouldnt playing xbox mess up the test because they dont do that in space.

ReplyDeletePillownauts are test subjects for N.A.S.A scientist that are trying to figure out a way to keep astronauts healthy in a zero gravity enviorment. The pillownaut lays in bed for seventy days to simulate an astronaut in space. N.A.S.A scientist observe the pillownauts changes, good or bad. If something bad occures then the scientist will try to find cures and study these situations. This study may help a lot of astronauts and problems that may happen later on in the future. I wouldn't mind being a pillownaut considering the amount of pay they get. One benefit of being a pillownaut is that you get to lay down in bed for seventy days and get paid to do it. But one downside of being a pillownaut is that your body may get a sickness that scientsit have not yet got a cure for. So that it just some information about a pillownaut and why i wouldn't mind to be one.
What are they looking for in doing this experiment.
DeleteI thought your paragraph was pretty good, wish I would of picked this one over the Mars One Mission.
DeleteThe Pillownauts will train for 70 days bye laying in bed. The Pillownauts will have to be really healthy for the job because when you go to space you become really weak. You can also get cancer from going up there. But scientists made microgravity walls in the space ships so that there safe. The walls are like sponge. Pillownaugts are almost weightless in space. So its fun but dangerous. And i do not want to be a pillownaght.
ReplyDeleteHow do they get Cancer?
Deleteyou could have told us more about the pros and cons about being a pillownaut and why you dont wanna be a pillownaut.
DeleteYesterday we were assigned to do a fun project where you will be a pillownaut or take a trip to mars. Me and my partner chose to do pillownauts. Pillownauts is where you get to lay in bed for 70 days and you get paid $175 everyday and in 70 days you will have $10,000. I would want to do this becuase you get to lay in bed for 70 days.

There are benafits and risks for being a pillownaut and mars one mission.First lets start with pillownauts, one of the risks are you will have cange in blood and may lower your bone density these risks can deadly to you so it is a hard chose but there is bunafits to one is you get 160 dollers per day for 90 days so that would be 14,400 dollers in all plus it is not hard all you do is lay in bed what is so hard about that I mean I think that is really cool.
Wasn't the pay 200$ a day? That is what it said on my research, I might have misread it.
DeleteI disagree. I would not be able to stay in one place that long!
Delete
ReplyDeleteWould you want a one way ticket to mars? Even though it has an atmosphere, weather, and this is a
once in a life time experience there are downsides to this trip. while there you would experience
freezing tempertures, no oxygen, and terrible dust storms. Not only that but scientists even say that
this can be very dangerous. But on top of that I still would love to live a once in a life time so yes I would love to go o the missin to mars.

Pillownauts:
Pillonauts train for seventy days, twenty four hours a day unless the have to take a test. Space affects the body in many ways. Weightlessness will increase the risk of kidney stones and bone fractures. Long stays in space have an impact on the muscles, that is the down side of being a pillownaut.
A few good things about being a pillownaut is that you get to lay in bed for seventy days and also get payed for it. You also don't have to do anything besides a few test. That why it is awesome to be a pillownaut.
How long does it take to recover.
DeleteWhat kinds of things do you get to do while being a Pillownaut?
Deletei agree with zak but what happens when food runs out??????
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with micheal though because sure YOLO but if you know you can die then don't do it
ReplyDeleteDaniel that's true but that means no health care what heppens when get hurt?????
ReplyDeleteWhy would you like to be a pillownaut?

DeleteNice writing Alex, looks like we both agree on why we would like to be a pillownaut!!!
ReplyDeletegood job brittany i like it.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck michael
ReplyDeletethis doesnt make any sence because its only two months not 7
ReplyDeletewhy do they lay in bed that long tyler
ReplyDeleteliked it haley but you could indent a little bit
ReplyDelete><
ReplyDeleteO
Nice job brittany ibut i would not agree with you on laying down for 70 days.
ReplyDeleteI would not go on the Mars One Mission. There are benefits for not going and for going. One benefit for going is that you don't have to take care of bills or pay taxes anymore. The bad thing about going on is that you can't stay out late with friends or have pizza or drink alot of soda like you did on Earth. The benefit for not going is is if you go then you might have a better chance of surviving on earth than mars. The bad thing for not going is you can have the chance to lay a bed for 70 days and get paid while they sleep or lay there. Wyatt William
